
Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO chaired the meeting and working with the new UNFPA Representative in Vietnam
On the morning of November 21, 2019, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) welcomed and had a courtesy meeting with Ms. Naomi Kitahara – new UNFPA Representative in Vietnam. Ms. Naomi Kitahara, a Japanese national, has officially taken up this post on 1 September 2019. Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam – Director General of GSO chaired the meeting. Also attending this event were representatives of leaders and staffs of relevant departments under the GSO.
At the meeting, the Director General Nguyen Bich Lam welcomed Ms. Naomi Kitahara to take up the new mission in Vietnam and wished her a successful term, at the same time. Mr. Lam also expressed his thanks to UNFPA’s support for Vietnam in general and Vietnam Statistics in particular over the past time. The Director General believed that with her many years of working at UNFPA and her skills and rich experiences in the field of population, Ms. Naomi Kitahara would make positive contributions to promoting the good cooperation relationship between UNFPA and Vietnam in general, UNFPA and GSO in particular in the coming time. On behalf of GSO, Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam hoped that UNFPA
would continue to develop new modes and contents of collaboration to help the GSO to meet the needs on statistics in the context of Vietnams socio-economic development at the present and in the future.
New UNFPA Representative in Vietnam – Ms. Naomi Kitahara expressed her impression on the over-40- year sustainable cooperation between UNFPA and the GSO. Ms. Naomi Kitahara also highly appreciated the success of the GSOs Population and Housing Census 2019 with the effective application of information and communication technology in collecting and processing the data. Ms. Naomi Kitahara affirmed that UNFPA would continue to accompany with and try its best to ensure effective support for Vietnam and GSO in all activities with new initiatives and new cooperation directions.
