Mr. Le Quang Manh, Vice Minister of MPI announced the Circular No. 03/2019/TT-BKHDT dated January 22, 2019 by the Minister of MPI on stipulating the Set of Sustainable Development Statistical Indicators of Vietnam
On March 19, 2019, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) under Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) with support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) co-organized the launching workshop of the Set of Sustainable Development Statistical Indicators of Vietnam. The workshop was co-chaired by Mr. Le Quang Manh, Vice Minister of MPI and Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO. Attending the workshop were Mr. Martin Hoppe, First Counselor of the German Embassy in Vietnam; Ms. Astrid Bant, UNFPA Representative in Vietnam. The workshop attracted the participation of representatives from ministries, government agencies, UN agencies, embassies, NGOs, international development agencies in Vietnam, representatives of GSO’s leadership, representatives of leaders and staffs of units under GSO, representatives of some provincial statistical offices, media, acamedia and experts.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Le Quang Manh, Vice Minister of MPI announced the Circular No. 03/2019/TT-BKHDT dated January 22, 2019 by the Minister of MPI on stipulating the Set of Sustainable Development Statistical Indicators of Vietnam. The launching of this Circular is believed to bring Viet Nam one step closer to defining the scope of monitoring the implementation of sustainable development goals.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Deputy Director General had a presentation on the development process of the set of sustainable development statistical indicators of Vietnam and its implementation plan. The Set of Sustainable Development Statistical Indicators of Vietnam has been developed by the GSO in consultation and close cooperation with various ministries and other actors. The purpose of this set of indicators is to provide “authentic and empirical evidence” with suitable, reliable, consistent, internationally comparable and easily accessible data for the monitoring and assessing of the implementation of 17 Goals and 115 targets.
With the core target of “leaving no one behind”, the Set includes 158 indicators, in which GSO is assigned to collect and aggregate data of 62 indicators, the rest of indicators are assigned to 22 relevant ministries and agencies to implement; 140 indicators with A schedule are implemented from 2019, 18 indicators with B schedule will be implemented from 2025. The Set of indicators offers 55 indicators related to children, 48 indicators related to population and development, 13 indicators related to labor, 70 indicators related to gender, 19 indicators related to environment and climate change and many indicators related to people with disabilities.

A seminar was held at the workshop with the participation of Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO; Ms. Duong Thi Van, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Disabled People Association; Mr. Martin Hoppe, First Counselor of the German Embassy in Vietnam; and Ms. Astrid Bant, UNFPA Representative in Vietnam.
At the discussion session, the participants gave many positive comments, congratulated the GSO for completing and announcing the set of indicators, agreeing with the speech of the Director General of GSO that it is necessary to quickly implement popularization as well as effectively apply the set of sustainable development statistical indicators of Vietnam into practice.
