Delegation from NSO visits Statistics Denmark to study and exchange experience on Statistics Communication and Dissemination

In an era where data has become a strategic resource for national governance and socio-economic development, statistical communication and dissemination must continuously evolve to ensure that official statistics are accessible, relevant and meaningful to citizens, businesses and policymakers. From 20 to 27 June 2026, a delegation from the Statistics Office of Vietnam (NSO), led by Deputy Director General Nguyen Thanh Duong, together with representatives and experts from several departments of the NSO, participated in a study visit on statistical communication and dissemination in Copenhagen, Denmark, alongside strategic partners in the field of official statistics.

The program hosted by Statistics Denmark, brought together representatives from the national statistical offices of Ghana, Morocco and Vietnam. It provided an important platform for strengthening international cooperation and exchanging practical experiences on modernizing statistical communication in the context of the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The study visit covered a wide range of practical and forward-looking topics, including: Developing and implementing National Statistical Communication Strategies; Best practices in statistical communication, including the European Statistics Code of Practice and the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics; Statistical literacy initiatives designed for students, journalists and the general public; Designing user-friendly website structures and navigation; Leveraging social media and digital platforms for statistical dissemination; Monitoring, analysing and evaluating communication performance across traditional and online media; and exploring innovative approaches to make official statistics more useful and accessible for evidence-based policymaking.

To reinforce the learning experience, each thematic session was followed by practical group exercises involving delegates from Ghana, Morocco and Vietnam. These hands-on activities enabled participants to apply newly acquired concepts to real-world communication challenges and exchange solutions based on their respective national experiences.

Participants also discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between statisticians, communication professionals and information technology specialists; improve outreach to vulnerable and underserved user groups; and leverage emerging technologies to enhance the accessibility, effectiveness and impact of statistical dissemination.

As part of the program, the delegations from the three countries visited Danmark’s National bank (the Danmark National Bank) to learn about its approaches to communication, public information dissemination and the presentation of financial statistics. The delegation also visited Danish Industry (DI), the organization representing more than 20,000 companies across a wide range of sectors of the Danish economy. During the visit, participants gained insights into DI’s role in conducting economic analysis and providing timely information to the business community while supporting evidence-based policymaking through research and communication.

The knowledge, experiences and professional partnerships developed throughout the study visit will provide a valuable foundation for the Statistics Office of Vietnam to continue modernizing its communication practices, strengthening the dissemination of official statistics and promoting the wider use of trusted data in evidence-based policymaking, public administration and decision-making. Ultimately, these efforts will contribute to enhancing the value of official statistics in supporting sustainable national development and better serving governments, businesses and citizens alike.
