As of mid-February, the country cultivated 2387.4 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, equaling 92% from the same period last year. The cultivated area in the Red River Delta was estimated to reach 84.8 thousand hectares, only equaling 41.2% from the identical period last year
GDP in the first quarter of 2015 was estimated 6.03% increase against the same period in 2014; this is the highest growth rate in the first quarter for the last 5 years . Of the overall growth rate, the agriculture, forestry and fishery grew by 2.14%, contributed 0.28 percentage points; the industry and construction by 8.35%, contributed 2.82 percentages points; the service by 5.82%, contributed 2.36 percentage points; product tax excluding product subsidy by 4.47%, contributed 0.57 percentage points.
As of May 15, provinces in the North finished the cultivation of winter-spring rice with the estimated area of 1162 thousand hectares, equaling 100.2% from the same crop last year. According to preliminary assessments, Northern provinces’ winter-spring rice output this year was estimated to reach 7.2 million tons, down 40 – 70 thousand tons compared to 2014’s same crop.
