Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO welcomed and worked with the Chief Representative of JICAs Vietnam Office
In the afternoon, November 20, 2019, in Hanoi, Mr. Konaka Tetsuo – the Chief Representative of JICAs Vietnam Office paid a visit and worked with the General Statistics Office (GSO). Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam – Director General of GSO and representatives of relevant departments under the GSO attended the meeting.
Based on the good cooperation relationship Japan-Vietnam, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been implement many ODA projects on technical assistance and non-refundable aid for Vietnam. In the coming time, the Government of Vietnam will promote the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy (SEDS) to 2030 and the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) by 2025. JICA will also focus on setting up the projects to support these long-term strategies, and to strengthen the cooperation with Vietnam at both central and local levels, including the cooperation with the GSO. The Chief Representative of JICA Office in Vietnam – Mr. Konaka Tetsuo said that the statistics played a very important role in supporting the Government to develop appropriate policies and strategies to achieve the country’s sustainable development goals.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam – Director General of GSO expressed his thanks to JICA for supporting GSO in training staffs through workshops. The Director General hoped that JICA would give priority to help Vietnam Statistics improve the quality of statistical data. According to the Director General Nguyen Bich Lam, GSO is ready to share experiences and information that JICA needs during JICA’s implementation of assistance projects for the Government of Vietnam in general and Vietnam Statistics in particular. On behalf of the GSO, Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam wished Mr. Konaka Tetsuo a successful term of office as Chief Representative of JICA Office in Vietnam and to effectively support the Government of Vietnam, as well as concern about the cooperation with GSO.
