On the morning of November 14, 2019, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) had a courtesy reception for the new Resident Representative of International Monetary Fund (IMF) office in Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO chaired the meeting. Attending this event were Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Economist, IMF Representative Office in Hanoi; representatives of leaders of relevant units under the GSO.
At the meeting, on behalf of the GSO, Director General Nguyen Bich Lam congratulated Mr. Francois Painchaud as the new Resident Representative of the IMF Representative Office in Vietnam, and expressed his happiness at the good cooperation relationship between GSO and IMF, at the same time, appreciated the active support of the IMF to the GSO in recent years. The Director General also expected that Mr. Francois Painchaud, during his term, would promote the role of a bridge to enhance the close cooperation between the two agencies and make many advices, policy recommendations as well as the proposals of technical assistance and capacity building for GSO.

The two sides discussed the possibility of cooperation between the GSO and the IMF in the areas of labor productivity of Vietnamese enterprises and the informal economic sector, at the same time, identified specific contents of cooperation in the coming time.
Mr. Francois Painchaud, the new Resident Representative of the IMF Representative Office in Vietnam thanked the GSO for the warm welcome and affirmed that in his working position, he would endeavor to promote close cooperation between the IMF and the GSO in the direction of increasing effectiveness, practicality, and be ready to support GSO in activities and contents of cooperation between the two sides.
