The Conference on implementation of the Scheme “Innovation of compilation process of gross regional domestic product of centrally-run cities and provinces” was held by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on the morning of October 11th, 2016 in Can Tho City. Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of GSO, chaired the Conference. Attending this event were Mr. Le Van Tam, member of Can Tho City’s Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee; representatives of leaders and staffs of units under the GSO; Directors, Chiefs and staffs of Integral Statistics Bureaus, professional bureaus from Provincial Statistical Offices.
The Conference lasts 02 days from October 11th to 12th, 2016, focusing on the following contents: (1) Report on the implementation of reviewing GRDP data for the period 2011-2015 and trial calculation for for the first six months of 2016, GRDP trial calculation plan for 2016 and assignment of tasks since 2017; (2) Results of GRDP trial calculation for the first six months of 2016; (3) Results of reviewing data on gross output for the period 2011-2015 and trial calculation for the first six months of 2016 for economic activities, and plans for the coming time; (4) Some advanced contents on the quality of socio-economic analysis reports for months, quarters and years.
In his opening remarks at the Conference, the Director General of GSO Nguyen Bich Lam mentioned the reasons for the disparity of GDP data between the central and local levels. He also asked Directors of Provincial Statistical Offices to actively participate in discussion, present difficulties and shortcomings in the localities during the calculation, find methods to overcome and unify their tasks in order to implement the Scheme in accordance with the Prime Minister’s direction: GSO calculates the GRDP for 2017, then summarizes, assesses and reports to the Prime Minister.
