Mr. Do Anh Kiem – Director of the Social and Environmental Statistics Department (under GSO) delivered the opening speech at the workshop
On the morning of December 19th, 2018, in Hanoi, supported by the World Bank (WB), the General Statistics Office (GSO) organized the technical consultation workshop on data analysis and research “Childcare and parental employment: Evidence from Vietnam” using the VHLSS data.
Mr. Do Anh Kiem – Director of the Social and Environmental Statistics Department (under GSO) and Dr. Dang Hai Anh – an expert from WB co-chaired the workshop. Attending this event were Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong – Lecturer of the National Economics University, Deputy Director of the Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI); representatives of units under the GSO; representatives of relevant ministries, line-ministries and agencies.
After the opening speech of the workshop by Mr. Do Anh Kiem – Director of the Social and Environmental Statistics Department (under GSO), Mr. Dang Hai Anh – the expert from WB introduced the goals of the technical consultation workshop on gender statistics analysis using STATA software on the basis of VHLSS data (lasting from December 13rd to 18th, 2018) and introduced the draft of the research “Childcare and parental employment: Evidence from Vietnam”. Also at the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Viet Cuong – Senior expert of MDRI presented contents of the draft of research results. Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga – Main Statistician, the Social and Environmental Statistics Department stated the issues related to the Household Living Standard Survey conducted by the GSO and relevant data sources as well as research directions in the coming time.
Overview of the workshop
At the session of discussion, participants had questions for the experts with a desire to further explore the contents of the Draft and expressed the hope that the Draft would be finalized to support policy-makers solve children issues researched in the Draft.
At the end of the workshop, on behalf of WB, Mr. Dang Hai Anh hoped that in the future, the WB would continue to support and coordinate with the GSO in organization of more training courses in order to enhance the capacity for officers, specialists of the GSO, help them apply the knowledge from the training courses in their job, and have the research articles and in-depth analysis publications on the basis of the data produced by the GSO.
