On the morning of September 26, 2018, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) in coordination with the International Labor Organization (ILO) held the workshop on statistical indicators on labor in Vietnam’s sustainable development indicator system (V-SDG). Mr. Pham Quang Vinh, Deputy Director General of GSO chaired the workshop. Attending the workshop were Mr. Tite Habiyakare, Senior Statistician, ILO Regional Office for Asia & the Pacific; representatives of relevant ministries, line-ministries; representatives of international organizations; representatives of units under GSO.
At the workshop, the representative of GSO presented major contents of the set of V-SDG indicators and SDG indicators related to labor and employment. Accordingly, the list of V-SDG indicators includes 230 indicators reflecting the UN’s 17 goals. In which, 27 indicators are included in the National Statistical Indicator System, 53 indicators has available data, 215 indicators with Route A, 15 indicators with Route B, and 110 indicators need to be standardized. SDG indicators related to labor and employment include 17 global indicators and 25 indicators proposed in V-SDG. Of the 25 indicators of labor and employment, 7 indicators are available in the national statistical indicators, 18 indicators are to develop metadata based on international metadata and Viet Nam’s data.
At the workshop, participants discussed and offer positive suggestions focusing on the following contents: List of SDG indicators related to labor and employment, indicator name, concepts, main disaggregation, releasing period, data sources, agencies in charge of collecting and aggregating, and other relevant contents. Speaking at the conclusion of the workshop, Deputy Director General Pham Quang Vinh asked the Drafting Board to systematize contributed suggestions in writing with specific explanation. In the coming time, GSO will continue to organize seminars to consult on the List, standardize contents; complete the draft list and content; ask official opinions from ministries, line-ministries and provincial statistical offices; appraise; receive and explain appraisal opinions, complete appraisal dossiers including the regulatory impact assessment (RIA), the submission to the Minister, and the report to explain opinions of ministries, line-ministries. After completed, the Draft will be submitted to the Minister for promulgation by the end of 2018.
