
Mr. Pham Quang Vinh – Deputy Director General of GSO delivered a speech to welcome the study visit delegation from Sri Lanka
On the morning of August 13, 2019, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) had a courtesy reception for the delegation from the Department of Census and Statistics Sri Lanka. Mr. Pham Quang Vinh – Deputy Director General of GSO chaired the meeting. Attending this event were representatives of leaders and specialists of relevant units under the GSO.
The purpose of the Delegation’s study visit is to learn about Vietnam’s experiences in the 2019 Population and Housing Census (the 2019 Census) and the Survey on Women’s Health and Life Experience to apply to the Sri Lanka’s Census that will be conducted in 2021.
During the Delegation’s working days in Vietnam, the GSO will share with their colleagues from Sri Lanka experiences of (1) designing the 2019 Census with application of information technology (IT) in all stages of the Census; (2) developing and using CAPI software, webform, operation website and propaganda website for the Census; (3) the National Survey on Women’s Health and Life Experience: Results of the 2010 Survey, methodology and the organization of the Second Survey.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director General of GSO Pham Quang Vinh introduced the overview of the 2019 Census in Vietnam that was carried out from April 1st, 2019 and its preliminary results was published on July 11, 2019 (only over two months from the start of the Census). The Census was successful with the first use of CAPI and webform to shorten the time to collect and process information. He affirmed that GSO was willing to share with the Delegation all the experiences of GSO obtained from the 2019 Census. At the same time, he wished the Delegation a successful study visit and hoped that the Delegation would take the time to visit Hanoi and learn about Vietnamese people.
