Overview of the workshop

On January 16, 2020, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) held a workshop on the plan of Vietnam Household Living Standards Survey 2020 (VHLSS 2020) in accordance with Decision No. 1261/QD-TCTK dated August 19, 2019 by the Director General of GSO.

Mr. Do Anh Kiem, Director of Social and Environmental Statistics Department, chaired the workshop. Attending this workshop were representatives of leaders and specialist of units under the GSO.

At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen The Quan, Deputy Director of Social and Environmental Statistics Department presented a summary of the 2020 VHLSS plan. Accordingly, VHLSS 2020 is a sample survey to collect information, aggregate and compile national statistical indicators on household living standards in order to meet the need of using statistical information in assessing the real situation of peoples life, as well as determine the level of poverty and the gap between rich and poor serving the policy-making, socio-economic development planning, and to the evaluation of achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Vietnam’s socio-economic development goals.

Statistical information from the VHLSS 2020 must ensure to be representative for the whole country, urban-rural areas, 6 socio-economic regions and provinces and centrally-run cities. The survey subjects of the VHLSS 2020 are households, households’ members and communes with households surveyed. The VHLSS 2020 is conducted in 63 provinces and centrally-run cities. The time-point of the survey to collect information is the date the interviewer directly interview and fill the questionnaire at the households during the survey period specified in the plan. The VHLSS 2020 will be conducted in 4 periods (March, June, September and December 2020), the time for collecting information at the fieldwork is one month.
