In the morning, April 24, 2020, in Hanoi, the General Statistics Office (GSO) held a press conference to announce the report on labor force survey in the first quarter and 4 months of 2020. Mr. Pham Quang Vinh – Deputy Director General of GSO chaired the press conference. Attending this event were representative of Ministry of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs; representatives of units under the GSO; and reporters from press agencies in Hanoi.
At the press conference, Ms. Vu Thi Thu Thuy – Director of Population and Labor Statistics Department under the GSO presented the report on labor force survey in the first quarter and 4 months of 2020. According to the report, the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, which appeared from the end of January 2020, have had a great impact on the situation of production, business and employment, resulting in the reduction in labor market participation rate and the increase in unemployment and underemployment rates. Informally-employed labors, workers without signing labor contract, low-income labors, young and elderly labors are vulnerable groups of the COVID-19 epidemic. The report stated the statistics reflecting the impact of COVID-19 epidemic on labor force situation in the first quarter and 4 months of 2020, at the same time, proposed solutions for Vietnam to revive the economy in general, labor market and enterprises in particular.
