In the first six months of 2026, the global situation remained complex, unpredictable and difficult to forecast, as prolonged armed conflicts in the Middle East continued to escalate, posing threats to global peace and security, while adversely affecting supply chains, energy prices, commodity prices, transport services and global trade.
In the 2026 winter-spring rice season, the whole country planted 2,932.2 thousand hectares, a decrease of 37.5 thousand hectares compared to the previous winter-spring season due to localities implementing the conversion of less efficient rice land to other crops or livestock with higher economic value, or to non-agricultural land.
As of April 20, 2026, the whole country had sown 2,932.9 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, a decrease of 36.8 thousand hectares compared to the previous winter-spring crop.
Agricultural production in February focused on sowing and caring for rice and winter-spring crops nationwide. As of February 20, 2026, the whole country had sown and transplanted 2,731.4 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice.
As of January 20, 2026, the country had sown 1,910.7 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, equivalent to 93.7% of the same period last year.
The rice-growing area for the entire year of 2025 is estimated to reach 7.13 million hectares, down 1.1 thousand hectares compared to 2024, mainly due to the continued conversion of part of the rice land to non-agricultural purposes and other crops with higher economic efficiency.
Agricultural production in November 2025 focused on harvesting the summer-autumn rice crop, sowing winter crops, and taking care of, as well as restoring livestock production affected by natural disasters, particularly storms and floods in the provinces of Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. As of November 20, 2025, the whole country had harvested 1,283.2 thousand hectares of summer-autumn rice, accounting for 83.3% of the planted area and 100.2% of the same period last year.
As of October 20, 2025, the whole country had harvested 865,500 hectares of seasonal rice, equivalent to 91.7% of the same period last year.
