Agricultural, forestry and fishery production in September 2024 was severely affected by Typhoon No. 3 and prolonged heavy rains over a large area in most of the Northern region, causing great damage to cultivation, livestock and aquaculture. However, agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the third quarter and nine months of 2023 maintained stable growth.
As of mid-July, the whole country had planted 1,206.9 thousand hectares of winter paddy, equal to 99.5% of the same period last year. Of which, Northern localities planted 852.5 thousand hectares, equal to 99.3%; Southern localities planted 354.4 thousand hectares, equivalent to the same period last year.
Regarding agricultural production in the first 6 months of 2024, the country has cultivated nearly 3 million hectares of winter-spring rice, an increase of 1.2 thousand hectares compared to the winter-spring crop in 2023.
As of mid-May, the whole country planted 2,953.6 thousand hectares, an increase of 0.9 thousand hectares compared to the previous year's winter-spring crop. Northern localities planted 1,059.4 thousand hectares, a decrease of 8.5 thousand hectares. hectares, of which the Red River Delta reached 471.3 thousand hectares, down 6.3 thousand hectares.
As of mid-April, the whole country had planted 2,948.6 thousand hectares of winter-spring rice, down 2.5 thousand hectares compared to last year's winter-spring crop. Northern localities planted 1,057.5 thousand hectares, down 9.4 thousand hectares, southern localities harvested 1,612 thousand hectares of spring paddy, accounting for 85.2% of the planted area and equal to 102% over the same period last year. Of which, the Mekong Delta harvested 1,423.9 thousand hectares, accounting for 95.7% of the cultivated area and equal to 100.6%.
Gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2024 is estimated to increase by 5.66% over the same period last year, higher than the growth rate of the first quarter of 2020-2023.
As of mid-February, the whole country had cultivated 2,693.4 thousand hectares of spring paddy, equaling 100.5% of the same period last year, of which the northern provinces reached 823 thousand hectares, equaling 105.3%; the southern localities reached 1,870.4 thousand ha, equaling 98.5%; partiality the Mekong Delta provinces cultivated 1,475.1 thousand ha, equaling 98.2%.
As of January 15, 2024, the whole country cultivated 1,821.4 thousand hectares of spring rice, equaling 96.9% of the same period last year, of which, the northern provinces reached 63.4 thousand hectares, equaling 66.6%; the southern provinces reached 1,757.9 thousand hectares, equaling 98.5%; particularly the Mekong River Delta reached 1,427.7 thousand hectares, equaling 99.5%.
As of mid-February, the whole country had planted 2,557.4 thousand hectares of spring paddy, equal to 94.8% of the same period last year. Of which, northern localities reached 680.9 thousand hectares, equal to 82.6%; Southern localities reached 1,876.5 thousand hectares, equal to 100.2%, the Mekong Delta region alone reached 1,481.7 thousand hectares, equal to 100.5%.
Global economic growth in 2023 has been adjusted by international organizations compared to previous forecasts, but most forecasts are lower than the growth rate in 2022.
