Hemorrhagic fever is a viral disease that easily becomes epidemic, people at ages riskily get this desease, especially children. In tropical countries like Vietnam, high humidity climate and rainy weather are favorable conditions for hemorrhagic fever to develop rapidly. the Current situation is the peak period of hemorrhagic fever epidemic, which is outbreaking and complicated in all localities across the country. It is forecasted that the number of cases in next time will continue to increase and may outbreak on a large scale if solutions to prevent epidemics are not drastically implemented.

Hemorrhagic fever disease situation and disease prevention

In October 2020 (from September 19th, 2020 to October 18th, 2020), the whole country had 19,365 cases of hemorrhagic fever (6 cases died). Compared to the same period last year, the number of hemorrhagic fever cases decreased by 54.7% (the number of hemorrhagic fever cases in October 2019 was 42,779 cases, of which 3 cases died). Compared to the previous month, the number of hemorrhagic cases increased by 16.9% (the number of cases of hemorrhagic fever in September 2020 was 16,562 cases, of which 4 cases died). Localities with many cases of hemorrhagic fever are: Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ben Tre, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Generally, in 10 months, the country had 84,411 cases of hemorrhagic fever (13 cases died).

The number of cases of hemorrhagic fever tends to increase, partly because people do not fully comply with principles of hemorrhagic prevention or have not really distinguished symptoms of hemorrhagic fever with other diseases such as common fever, typhus fever, viral fever; Patients who have been diagnosed with hemorrhagic fever do not strictly follow the recommendations for home treatment. In addition, in last months of the year, the weather which is forecasted to be rainy and humidity is favorable conditions for mosquitoes to transmit the disease, leading to a high risk at infecting hemorrhagic fever.

In order to control the epidemic well, prevent the epidemic from spreading and prolonging, with the motto of considering epidemic prevention as a key task, the Ministry of Health has directed the urgent, drastic and synchronous solutions to prevent epidemics from the beginning of the year, such as: Issue a plan for disease prevention; official letters directing localities to actively implement epidemic prevention activities; setting up groups to inspect, supervise and support key localities; organizing national online conferences on disease prevention and control; training to improve professional qualifications for medical staff  at all levels; direct to hold a campaign to kill larvae and mosquito larvae.

Besides  efforts of the health sector, there is a need for close coordination of local authorities, households and individuals to implement effective epidemic prevention and control solutions.
