To recognize and honor the important contribution of Vietnam Statistics to the development of the country. On March 31, 2021, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed Decision No. 510 / QĐ-TTg on May 6 every year as “Vietnam Statistical Day”. This is a special event for the Statistics sector, statisticians of ministries, departments, localities, statisticians in the country, and all citizens participating in providing statistical information to the state.

The historical significance of Vietnam Statistics: the great victory of the Revolution in August 1945 gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, ushering in the era of independence, freedom, democracy, and civilization. On May 6, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh issued Decree No. 61/SL establishing the Vietnam Statistical Office within the Ministry of National Economy, marking the historic event of the establishment of the first statistical agency in the state apparatus of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
The 75-year process of Statistics Vietnam has always affirmed its mission and important role in providing socio-economic statistical information to serve the leadership, direction, and administration of the Party, State, and levels and branches; at the same time, meeting the increasing demand for using statistical information of domestic and international organizations and individuals. Statistics always asserted that it is a scientific, specialized, and specialized branch to reflect all activities in the overall socio-economic picture of the country. Therefore, statistical activities are related to almost all sectors and fields such as economy, society, biology, medicine, hydrometeorology…
Increasing awareness and companionship between information providers, information producers, and statistical information users to produce the fastest, most accurate statistical information and timely response to all need to use statistical information.
Proactive, Adaptive, and Integration Vietnamese Statistics: The United Nations has chosen October 20 as “World Statistics Day” to honor the role and contribution of statistics to economic development – global society. Many countries have also chosen a specific date as “National Statistics Day” to confirm the role, position, and recognition of the contribution of statistical activities to the development of the country.
According to the decision issued, Vietnam Statistics Day is celebrated on May 6th every year in the country to educate tradition, to arouse love for the profession, to love the profession; at the same time encouraging and encouraging the labor emulation movement, working, raising the sense of discipline, complying with the law, arousing and promoting honor, pride and responsibility in implementing duties, public service of public servants, public employees, workers, people doing statistical work throughout the country.
