The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be complicated, especially in the southern provinces, causing the total retail sales and consumer service revenue in the nine months of 2021 to decrease in all economic activities. Total retail sales of consumer goods and services in the nine months of 2021 decreased by 7.1% over the same period last year, if excluding the price factor, it decreased by 8.7% (it decreased by 5.1% in the same period in 2020).

By economic activities, retail sales in 9 months were estimated at 2,779.7 trillion VND, down 3.4% over the same period in 2020 (increased by 3.7% in the same period in 2020), specifically, each product group is as follows:
– Food and foodstuffs were estimated at 977.7 trillion dong, accounting for the largest proportion in the commodity groups with 35.2%, up 5% over the same period last year because this is an essential commodity group for serving food. The daily living needs of the people should remain stable and this is partly due to the increase in prices of food groups compared to the same period in 2020.
– Garment group was estimated at 142.8 trillion dong, accounting for 5.1%, down 9.6% over the same period last year.
– Household appliances, tools and equipment reached 337.3 trillion VND, accounting for 12.1%, down 10% over the same period last year.
– The group of cultural and educational products was estimated at 32.9 trillion dong, accounting for 1.2%, down 10.5% over the same period last year, this is one of the commodity groups most affected by Covid-19 pandemic.
– Vehicles reached 148.1 trillion VND, accounting for 5.3%, down 6.4% over the same period last year.
– Petroleum group of all kinds reached 313.5 trillion VND, accounting for 11.3%, up 3.5% over the same period last year mainly due to high gasoline price.
Accommodation and catering services grew better compared to the previous month because localities began to gradually relax distance measures to realize the dual goal of ensuring epidemic control and socio-economic development 9 months of 2021 still decreased compared to the same period last year. Revenue from accommodation and food services in the nine months of 2021 was estimated at 279.4 trillion VND, down 22.1% over the same period last year, of which accommodation service revenue reached 19.5 trillion VND, down 37.1%; food service revenue reached 259.9 trillion dong, down 20.7%.
The tourism and travel service continues to be heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, many provinces/cities with travel activities in September are still frozen. In the nine months of 2021, the revenue of tourism and travel services is estimated at 4.6 trillion VND, down 64% compared to the same period in 2020. The travel revenue of some major localities fluctuates as follows. : Quang Ninh down 31.5%; Da Nang down 42%; Can Tho down 45.3%; Hanoi down 55.4%; Hai Phong down 55.7%; Ho Chi Minh City down 56.2%; Thua Thien – Hue down 63.1%; Binh Duong down 67.8%; Quang Nam down 82.4%; Khanh Hoa fell 89.5%.
Other service revenue in 9 months of 2021 was estimated at 304 trillion dong, down 19.4% over the same period last year. Revenue of other service in the 9 months of 2021 was heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, so the revenue of businesses and individual production and business establishments has all decreased so far, businesses have just produced and operated, the efficiency of production, business and services is not high. By service sector: Education and training services decreased by 33.9% over the same period last year; entertainment services down 19.3%; other services down 18.2%; real estate services decreased by 23.4%; administrative and support services down 18.1%; medical services down 0.4%.
