Industry in the first quarter of 2021 achieved a growth rate of 6.5% over the same period last year; of which the manufacturing increased by 9.45%, higher than the growth rate of 7.12% in the same period last year but lower than the growth rate of 14.30% in the first quarter of 2018 and 11.52% of the quarter I/2019; electricity production and distribution grew stably; The mining industry fell sharply mainly due to the sharp decline in crude petroleum and natural gas.
The added value of the whole industry in the first quarter of 2021 was estimated to increase by 6.5% over the same period last year. In which, the manufacturing increased by 9.45%, contributing 2.37 percentage points to the general growth of the whole economy; electricity production and distribution increased 4.5%, contributing 0.17 percentage points; Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased 3.78%, contributed 0.02 percentage points; the mining and quarrying decreased by 8.24% due to the sharp decline in crude petroleum and natural gas extraction, reducing the overall growth rate by 0.36 percentage points.
As for the usage of industrial products, the index of industrial production (IIP) of intermediate products (for the following production process) in the 1st quarter of 2021 increased by 8% over the same period last year; the IIP of products for final consumption increased by 3.8% (of which products for residents’ consumption increased by 0.9%).
In 2-digit industrial activities, the index of production in quarter I/2021 of some key activities significantly increased compared to the same period last year: Manufacture of basic metal (30.9%); manufacture of beverage (16.9%); Waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery (15.5%); manufacture of electrical equipment and mining of metal ores (both 12.5%); manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (12.3%); Manufacture of motor vehicles; trailers and semi-trailers (11.2%); Repair and installation of machinery and equipment (10.8%); manufacture of furniture (10.6%); Manufacture of rubber and plastics products (9.4%); Manufacture of paper and paper products (7.9%). From the opposite side, IIP of some industries decreased: Extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas (-13.7%); Printing and reproduction of recorded media (-11.9%); Mining support service activities (-9.8%); Waste collection, treatment and disposal activities, materials recovery (-5.6%); Manufacture of wood and products of wood and cork (-3.5%); Manufacture of other transport equipment (-2%); Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-1.8%); Mining of coal and lignite (-0.1%).
Some key industrial products in the 1st quarter 2021 highly increased over the same previous last year: Laminated steel (54%); Phone accessories (47.9%); television of all kinds (30.9%); Motorbike (17.7%); powder milk (17.5%); chemical pain (15.5%); Crude steel, iron (14.4%); beers of all kinds (12,1%); NPK fertilizer (10.8%); Liquidized gas (LPG) (9.1%); Animal feed (6.7%). A number of products decreased significantly compared to the same period last year: Natural gas (-16.1%); Monosodium glutamate (-11.9%); extracted crude oil (-11%); refined sugar (-3,9%); petroleum (-2.4%); motorbike and steel bars and corners both (-1,6%); leather footwears (-1.3%); pure coal (-0,1%).
The index of industrial shipment (IIS) of the manufacturing in March 2021 increased by 24.1% over the previous month and increased by 5.3% over the same period last year. Overall, in the quarter I/2021, the IIS of the manufacturing activities increased by 5.8% over the same period last year (the quarter I/2020 increased by 2.8%), of which some activities enjoyed a significant growth of the IIS: Manufacture of basic metals (28.5%); Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c (18.7%); Manufacture of beverages (17.8%); Manufacture of electrical equipment (12.2%); Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (11.4%); Manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (10.8%); Manufacture of furniture (8%). Others witnessed IIS decreased: Printing and reproduction of recorded media (-16.6%); Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (-13.5%); Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-13.3%); Manufacture of textiles (-1.8%); Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-0.2%).
The Inventory index of the manufacturing as of March 31, 2020 increased by 22.5% over the same period last year (24.9% in the same period in 2020), of which some industries had low or decreased inventory indexes: Manufacture of beverage (13.9%); Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (9.8%); Manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products (-0.7%); Manufacture of paper and paper products (-13%); Manufacture of motor vehicles; trailers and semi-trailers (-24.5%). Some industries experienced high inventory index: Manufacture of rubber and plastics products (91.6%); Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (85.7%); Manufacture of basic metals (68.1%); Printing and reproduction of recorded media (54%); Manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment and manufacture of furniture (both 40.9%); Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (31.5%); Manufacture of food products (29.2%).
The average index of industrial inventory of the manufacturing in the quarter I/2020 reached 75.1% (78.4% in quarter I/2020), of which some activities experienced the high index of industrial inventory: The manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork (127.5%); manufacture of textile (121.9%); Manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (113.7%); the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (109.8%).
The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of March 1, 2021 increased by 1.6% over the same period last month and decreased by 0.4% from the same period last year, of which the number of working employees in the state-owned enterprise sector increased by 0.2% and decreased by 1.9%; non-state enterprises increased by 1.2% and decreased by 1.5%; enterprises of foreign direct investment rose by 2% and went up by 0.4%. By industry, the number of employees working in mining and quarrying increased by 0.5% over the same period last month and fell by 1.1% against the same period last year; manufacturing peaked up by 1.7% and down by 0.3%; the production and distribution of electricity remained unchanged and rose by 0.9%; the water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities went up by 0.1% and decreased by 1.7%.
