Industrial production in the third quarter of 2021 faced many difficulties due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, especially in localities with large industrial zones that had to implement prolonged social distancing. Industry added value in the third quarter of 2021 decreased by 3.5% over the same period last year. Overall, the added value of the industry, in nine months of 2021 increased by 4.45% over the same period in 2020.
The added value of the whole industry in the nine months of 2021 was estimated to increase by 4.45% over the same period last year (increased by 6.29% in the first quarter; rose by 11.18% in the second quarter; decreased by 3.5% in the third quarter). In which, the manufacturing increased by 6.05% (increased by 8.9% in the first quarter; increased by 13.35% in the second quarter; decreased by 3.24% in the third quarter); The mining fell by 7.17% due to a 6% drop in extracted crude oil production and a 17.6% drop in natural gas.
The production index in nine months of 2021 of some key industries in the 2 digit industry increased sharply compared to the same period last year: Manufacture of basic metal increased by 28.4%; manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 7.7%; manufacture of wearing apparel by 4.8%; production of leather and related products by 4.5%; manufacture of prefabricated metal products (except for machinery and equipment) by 3.4%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products by 2%. In the opposite direction, the IIP index of some industries decreased: extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas by 12.4%; manufacture of beverages by 4.2%; printing and reproduction of recorded media by 2.2%; production of other transport equipment by 1.9%; production of chemicals and chemical products decreased by 1.1%.
Production index in 9 months of 2021 compared to the same period last year of some localities decreased sharply due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic: (1) Ho Chi Minh City decreased by 12.9% due to a decrease in manufacture of wearing apparel by 25,8%; manufacture of textiles down by 17.2%; manufacture of leather and related products decreased by 16%; manufacture of food products sunk by 7.8%. (2) Ben Tre decreased by 11.2% as the manufacture of textiles decreased by 25.2%; manufacture of food products decreased by 18%; manufacture of wearing apparel decreased by 15.3%; manufacture of the motor vehicle decreased by 13%. (3) Dong Thap decreased by 9.9% because the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemicals and botanical products decreased by 37.7%; manufacture of wearing apparel decreased by 1.4%; manufacture of food products decreased by 9.6%. (4) Can Tho decreased by 9.8% due to manufacturing of wearing apparel down 33.2%; manufacture of beverages decreased by 22.9%; manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products decreased by 25.1%; manufacture of food products down 9.5%; Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply fell by 6.7%. (5) Khanh Hoa decreased by 9.5% due to a 17.1% decrease in the manufacture of wearing apparel; manufacture of beverage decreased by 15.3%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 19.5%; manufacture of other transport equipment decreased by 29.7%. (6) Tra Vinh decreased by 7.3% due to Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply decreased by 7.1%; manufacture of food products decreased by 8.8%; Manufacture of electrical equipment down 14.3%. (7) Ba Ria – Vung Tau decreased by 5.3% because crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 12.5%; production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) decreased by 6%. (8) Vinh Long decreased by 4.5% as the manufacture of beverage decreased by 12.2%; manufacture of leather and related products decreased by 7%; manufacture of chemicals and chemical products decreased by 18.3%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 14.1%.
In the opposite direction, 9-month IIP of some localities increased compared to the same period last year: (1) Ninh Thuan increased by 32.6% due to an increase in the manufacture of food products by 13.6%; electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air-conditioning supply by 58.5%; manufacture of textile increased by 6%. (2) Dak Lak increased by 25% due to a 2.3 times increase in the manufacture of furniture; manufacture of prefabricated metal products increased by 76.9%; electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning supply increased by 60.1%. (3) Hai Phong increased by 19.7% due to 54.7% increase in the manufacture of wearing apparel; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 15.5%; manufacture of leather and related products increased by 21.7%; manufacture of electronic, computers and optical products increased by 17.5%. (4) Nghe An increased by 18.3% due to an increase of 43.2% in the manufacture of wearing apparel; manufacture of rubber and plastic products increased by 55.6%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 22%. (5) Gia Lai increased by 17.4% due to an increase of 30% in the manufacture of furniture; manufacture of the motor vehicle increased by 26%; manufacture of food products increased by 8.9%; Manufacture of wood and products of wood and cork (except for beds, cabinets, tables and chairs) increased by 2.3%. (6) Ha Tinh increased by 16.6% due to manufacture of production of coke, refined petroleum products increased by 16.5%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 7%; manufacture of prefabricated metal products (except for machinery and equipment) increased by 13.7%. (7) Thanh Hoa increased by 15.3% as the manufacture of food products increased by 37.7%; manufacture of leather and related products increased by 22.6%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 10.6%; manufacture of wearing apparel increased by 15.1%. (8) Quang Ngai increased by 14.9% as the manufacture of basic metal increased by 86.1%; manufacture of textiles increased by 45.2% (add of Mahang Dung Quat Yarn and Fabric Factory, Xindadong Textiles Co., Ltd. Fabric factory has the same completion time as of August 2021, the corresponding design capacity is 4,800 tons/year and 70 million m2/year); manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 22.9%; manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products increased by 17.1%. (9) Ha Nam increased by 14.4% as the manufacture of food products increased by 14.7%; manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 16.5%; production of other transport equipment increased by 17.2%; manufacture of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 15.8%. (10) Binh Phuoc increased by 14% due to an increase in the manufacture of food products by 29.3%; electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air-conditioning supply by 11.2%; manufacture of wearing apparel increased by 6.9%; manufacture of textile increased by 5.2%.
Some major industrial products in 9 months of 2021 increased sharply over the same period last year: Phone accessories (43.6%); laminated steel (43.3%); automobiles (18.6%); petroleum (16.1%); liquidized gas LPG (15.7%); crude steel, iron (12.4); powder milk (10.3%); leather footwear (9.4%); N.P.K mixed fertilizer (9.2%). In the opposite site, some prducts decreased over the same period last year: Televesion (-35.9%); Natural gas (17.6%); Processed fishery products (-8.8%); beer (-8.7%); Refined sugar (-8.3%); Aquatic feed (-7.2%); Extracted crude oil (-6%).
The consumption index of the manufacturing industry in September 2021 increased by 12.4% over the previous month and decreased by 11.2% over the same period last year. Generally, in 9 months, the consumption index of the whole manufacturing industry increased by 2.8% over the same period last year.
The inventory index of the manufacturing industry was estimated as of September 30, 2021, increasing by 3.5% over the period month and increased by 28.2 over the same period last year (in the same period of 2020 it increased by 24.3%). The average inventory rate of the whole processing and manufacturing industry in the first nine months of 2021 is 81.1% (75.6% in the same period last year).
The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of September 1st, 2021, increased by 1.5% over the same period last month and decreased by 13.9% from the same period last year, of which the number of working employees in the state-owned enterprise sector kept unchanged and decreased by 5.8%; non-state enterprises went up by 1.4% and down by 16.1%; enterprises of foreign direct investment rose by 1.8% and reduced by 14.2%. By industry, the number of employees working in mining and quarrying increased by 0.2% over the same period last month and fell by 2.6% against the same period last year; manufacturing up 1.7% and down 14.9%; the production and distribution of electricity down 0.1% and increased by 1.9%; the water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities rose by 0.2% and decreased by 2.3%.
