Industrial production in April 2021 was estimated to increase by 24.1% over the same period last year[1] in the context of the well-controlled Covid-19 pandemic, and the Free Trade Agreements were effective leading to active production and business activities. Generally, for the first 4 months of 2021, the industrial production index increased by 10% over the same period last year, of which the manufacturing industry increased by 12.7%.
The index of industrial production (IIP) in April 2021 is estimated to grow by 1.1% from the previous month and to rise by 24.1% from the same period last year, of which the mining industry went up by 3.8% and increase by 1.8%; manufacturing increased by 0.5% and rose by 29.1%; electricity production and distribution went up by 2.6% and peaked up by 16.4%; water supply, waste and wastewater management, and treatment all grew by 4.4% and by 11.1%.
Overall, for the first 4 months of 2021, the IIP is estimated to increase by 10% over the same period last year. In which, the manufacturing rose by 12.7% (increased by 9.7% in the same period last year), contributing 10.2 percentage points to the general growth; electricity production and distribution went up by 6.6% (same period last year down by 6.5%), contributed 0.6 percentage points; water supply, waste and wastewater management, and treatment peaked up by 7.5% (decreased by 0.3% in the same period last year), contributing 0.1 percentage points; the mining industry alone shrank by 5.7% (decreased by 6.8% in the same period last year), down by 0.9 percentage points in the general growth rate.
In 2-digit industrial activities, the index of production in 4 months 2021 of some key activities significantly increased compared to the same period last year: Manufacture of basic metal (37.9%); Manufacture of motor vehicles; trailers and semi-trailers (32.9%); Manufacture of furniture (17.6%); Manufacture of other transport equipment (16.9%); manufacture of beverage (16.1%); Waste collection, treatment, and disposal activities; materials recovery (15.7%); Manufacture of electrical equipment (15.3%); Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (15%); Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c (14.1%); Manufacture of rubber and plastics products (12.9%). On the other side, some industries saw a decrease: Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (2%); Sewerage and sewer treatment activities (2.2%); Mining of coal and lignite (2.8%); Printing and reproduction of recorded media (3.5%); Extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas (8.9%).
Some major industrial products in the first 4 months of 2021 increased sharply over the same period last year: Laminated steel (61.8%); Automobile (52.5%); Phone accessories (29.2%); mobile phone (21.3%); television (20.9%); motorbike (20%); beer of all kinds and powder milk (both 18.1%); chemical paint (17.5%); Crude steel, iron (17.4%); Leather footwear (13.3%); N.P.K mixed fertilizer (12%); Textile fabric from natural yarn (10.1%). Some products decreased compared to the same period last year: Extracted crude oil (-9%); Natural gas (in the form of air) (8.8%); Monosodium glutamate (6.8%); urea fertilizer (6.3%); Petroleum (3.9%); Coal (pure) (2.8%); Refined sugar (1.3%).
The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of April 1, 2021, increased by 1.5% over the same period last month and rose by 1.8% from the same period last year, of which the number of working employees in the state-owned enterprise sector went up by 0.2% and decreased by 2.9%; non-state enterprises increased by 1.3% and grew by 1.1%; enterprises of foreign direct investment rose by 1.8% and went up by 3%. By industry, the number of employees working in mining and quarrying peaked up by 0.2% over the same period last month and fell by 3.2% against the same period last year; manufacturing went up by 1.6% and rose by 2.1%; the production and distribution of electricity remained unchanged and rose by 0.9%; the water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities increased by 0.1% and decreased by 0.4%.
[1] April 2020 decreased by 7.6% over the same period last year due to the implementation of a social gap to limit the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic.
